Welcome to Mahale Mountains National Park

Lush and wild green peaks tower 2000 meters above the satin white beaches that welcome you as the boat gently glides towards shore on the crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. The beauty is breathtaking and the Mahale Mountains have you spellbound at first sight, like it must have had Stanley when he arrived at Ujiji in 1871, only 100kms from here. “At this grand moment we do not think of the hundreds of miles we have marched, of the hundreds of hills that we have ascended and descended, of the........ Our hearts and our feelings are with our eyes”

Apart from the mountain forest and alpine bamboo forest, much of the Mahale Mountains National Park is covered in miombo woodland. The eastern part is drier and here you can see the more classic wildlife, like giraffe, lion and elephant. The forests are home to colourful birds, troops of red colobus, red-tailed and blue monkeys, - and to the star attraction, some of Africas last remaining wild chimpanzees.
Tracking them and being in their midst will make you feel humble and  it will be an experience that will stay with you forever.
